Think about it though – in countries where there’s little to no work, and the main work is in mines or in waste where there are all sorts of chemicals and dangers, isn’t it better that they have jobs at all? There are thousands of people in England without jobs and yes, working in a sweatshop isn’t ideal at all for a child but surely it’s better than mines or waste… Or even worse, starvation and death. Just something to think about.
The awareness to stop sweatshop labour is not an attempt at shutting down a company, and you can probably agree that companies such as WalMart will not shut down any time soon. Of course it’s good that these people have jobs at all, but the awareness to stop sweatshop labour is a plea for a rise in their pay. Most of them have families and cannot make enough to support, so starvation is still an issue, as is the toxic chemicals and dangers. Sweatshops are hardly a ‘safe’ place to work.
But how would it be any better being worked to death in both situations, mines are dangerous but working in sweatshops there are also many dangerous hazards. And if people are working for such a long time they should be paid fairly. I’m sure all of those sport companies like Adidas and Nike could easily afford to pay workers a fair wage because they sell their shoes for so much but pay their workers so little. And for all those kids in sweatshops imagin living a childhood where you were worked to your bones that’s just terrible and cruel.

[...] During the holidays we spend billions of dollars on gifts and decor. A lot of that money goes to huge companies (Walmart and Apple come to mind). A lot of these huge companies outsource their jobs, and little of that money actually trickles down to the workers who produce the items. Several companies also use sweatshops (such as Nike, click here for a partial listing of companies down with sweatshoppin’). [...]
